Last Saturday, we explored what happens when kindness outgrows the village.
How memory fails, trust breaks down, and the only thing left to carry kindness is a child’s internal story- who they believe they are, even when no one’s watching.
One of you shared this beautiful IG post- a clip from the Oscar winning 30 min animated short film The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, available on Apple TV+. The film is based on the popular book of the same name by Charlie Mackesy.
Watch this beautiful 45 sec clip on Instagram here (and keep sharing your recommendations that I can feature here)
The softest word, the strongest act
This clip got me thinking…what if the kindest thing your child can do isn’t about helping others? What if the bravest thing… is asking for help?
Boy: “What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever said?”
Horse : “Help…asking for help…”
We often teach kids that kindness is doing something for others. But the truth is, some of the most important acts of kindness begin with receiving.
When your child says, “I’m struggling,” or when they say, “Can I talk to you?”…they are probably whispering to us, “Help”… That’s not weakness. That’s courage.
Ask, and then listen
If you have Apple TV+, do watch this Oscar winning short animation movie. Even if you are just watching the Instagram clip, try asking your kids:
“Do you think brave people sometimes cry?”
“What does asking for help feel like?”
“Is it hard to say help? Why do you think that is?”
Let them know they don’t have to be strong all the time. That kindness lives not just in what we give, but in what we trust others to hold for us.
Kindness isn’t just about action. It’s about connection. And connection begins with the courage to say, “I need you.”
Remember, Raising ki(n)d isn’t always easy,
But it’s always worth it.
See you soon with the next issue of Raising Ki(n)d.

This book is a masterpiece. Every page is a piece of wisdom that we should all collect and share. Have not seen the movie, but the author's insta feed is filled with graphic / animated expansion of the book's idea. And they connect everytime!
